NC Medicaid and Health Choice Outreach

What is NC Medicaid/Health Choice (CHIP) Outreach?

NC Medicaid and Health Choice (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) are publicly funded children's health insurance programs open to North Carolina residents who meet income, age and immigration guidelines. Your child may qualify for healthcare coverage through Medicaid or Health Choice, NC’s CHIP grant program -- both offer free or low cost health insurance for children and teens.

Our outreach goals are accomplished through partnerships with Health Check Coordinators at local health departments or Community Care of NC Networks. See the Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) web site to better understand how to use your benefits under Medicaid (Health Check) called EPSDT (Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment). Local Health Check Coordinators connect families with care providers and how to access these services. For more information or to contact your local Health Check Coordinator, call 704-874-1926.

In addition, our staff work with community and faith based organizations to:

  • Partner with local family-centered activities: health fairs, school sports/events, community-ethnic festivals.
  • Distribute materials to families by ordering available materials at no cost or downloading copies of PDFs provided.
  • Partner with local minority media outlets to extend the reach of critical enrollment and reenrollment messages as needed.

Who is eligible for NC Medicaid/Health Choice?

NC Medicaid/Health Choice offer different ways that may help pay for some or all of the cost of health care. Each program helps families with certain health needs based on family size, income and resource limits. Visit the DMA websites to learn more about Medicaid and Health Choice benefits.

Your county Division of Social Services (DSS) caseworker will help determine if you are eligible for NC Medicaid or Health Choice. Eligibility depends on your child’s age, family size, income and resources. Visit DMA to learn about eligibility.

Go to the DMA website to enroll and learn more specific details about program options. DMA is the agency that administers both programs -- NC Medicaid and Health Choice.
