Policies

The Classification and Compensation Unit

The Classification and Compensation Unit administers classification and compensation for all positions in the Division of Public Health.

Areas of focus are:

  • Reviews job evaluations and compensation programs.
  • Administers and interprets salary policy while maintaining internal and external equity.
  • Provides guidance regarding career advancement.
  • Assigns and monitors formal classification titles and corresponding salary grades, based on position design and within established guidelines that are provided by the Office of State Human Resources external link.

Classification and Compensation also manages the Division’s compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) provisions, which outlines the Hours of Work and Overtime Compensation Policy external link. This policy ensures that employees must be paid not less than the established minimum wage and provides guidelines on overtime compensation. Employees who are determined to be subject to the Hours of Work and Overtime Compensation Policy must be paid at a premium time and one-half rates or granted equal time off for hours worked in excess of 40 within a week.
